One Nosey Night
“Uh-oh!”
My mom turned off the shower. I had just stepped out of the shower. My mom went back into her room to watch T.V. I dried off, got dressed, and went back into my parents bathroom.
My nose was kind of stuffed up so I went to the tissue box. I grabbed a couple, (maybe one or two). I twisted them up (like usual) and stuck them up my nose.
I twirled them around and then I thought it was time to take them out. I tugged and tugged but it wouldn’t budge.
I didn’t want to tell my mom because I thought that I would get in trouble. So I kept trying. It still wouldn’t come out.
Then I thought I should just tell her.
And that brings us back here!
I walked nervously to her bed scared of what might happen next. “Mommy can you help me get these tissues out of my nose?” I wondered. “What did you do?” “I stuck tissues up my nose,” I blurted out. They were so far up my mom didn’t even see them. I tried to blow my nose but nothing came out. “Oh no, Olivia I think we have to go to the Emergency Room.”
Then, my mom rushed to go get the boys and me into the car. My mom dropped my brothers, Michael and Matthew off at my neighbor's house. Then we drove to the E.R. .
Once we walked into the E.R. we talked to the girl who was working at front desk. She asked for my date of birth and my first and last name she added in the date. Then it came out as a bracelet. I thought it was super cool!
“Olivia,” a nurse called out. We walked in through two doors that we can’t go through unless your name gets called or if you work there. We followed the nurse and finally entered the room. She asked us what was wrong and my mom said: “Well, she stuffed tissues up her nose and we can’t get them out”.
A few minutes later the doctor came in. He just told us that he was going to shine a light up my nose. When he did he saw that it went all the way up into my sinuses.
He got out a medical instrument that looked like a scissor.
I was as scared as a little kid trick or treating by him or herself. He told me that it wouldn’t hurt at all. After he told me that, I felt a little bit better.
I saw the long scissor-like tool coming toward my nose and I tried to take a deep breath. I was shaking rapidly with nervousness. There was a lot of pressure up on my nose. Finally, he pulled out three, big, globs of bloody tissue. When he was finished he told me that I was very brave.
I was very surprised that it could fit up my nose. It didn’t hurt at all, It actually sort of tickled!
After that my mom gave me a plastic to-go tissue (box). Then my mom payed and we had a “somewhat relaxing” rest of the night!
Epilogue
- Looking back, I can’t believe I was four years old when this happened.
- I never stuck a tissue up my nose again. Well, at least I was more careful when I had to blow my nose!
