Introduction

While having Hershey’s and Mars discontinue their candies might solve some health problems, keeping the candies is a better, and much wiser choice. In fact, this candy is actually better than previously believed. Did you know that eating candies with milk or dark chocolate in them can make you smarter? Well, it’s true! There have been many studies that have proven this; some old and some recent. In addition, there are many reasons why Hershey’s and Mars should keep their candies. For example, their candies are very profitable, very popular, and have many good benefits.

The Candies Are Profitable

One reason why Hershey's and Mars should keep their candies is because they are profitable to the company. ¨Give them quality. That's the best kind of advertising in the world,¨-Milton Hershey, CEO of Hershey's. He thinks that producing quality products is the best advertising out there. For example, last year on June 29th, Hershey's announced that they had made a profit of $168.2 billion. This shows why these companies are not closing down any time soon. Years ago, M&Ms became the most profitable candy made by Mars; 400 million packs of M&M's are produced each day! All of this information shows why these companies are still, and have been for years, up and running. In addition, York Peppermint Patties, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and M&Ms are some of the most profitable candies between the two companies. 600,000 bags of York Peppermint Patties are produced each day. This shows that if these candies were discontinued, people would be very disappointed because their favorite candies, such as York Peppermint Patties, would be gone. Additionally, M&Ms and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups have been around for 75 and 82 years, respectively. This tells us why the companies have been so profitable over the years and why they haven’t closed down. Also, Mars and Hershey’s are the 2nd and 5th most profitable candy companies in the world. Since the candies are profitable, the companies should keep them.

The Candies Are Popular

Another reason why Hershey's and Mars should keep their candies is because they are very popular. “Anything is good if it’s made of chocolate,”- Jo Brand, a huge chocolate lover/comedian. She particularly loves Hershey’s and Mars’  candies and how they are made. Hershey's and Mars candy were rated 1 and 2 on America's most popular Halloween candy list. This is important because as far as Halloween candy goes, there’s a lot of it. It must take a lot of work and care to have them be the most popular Halloween candy in America. In addition to this, Twizzlers, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and M&Ms all made America´s top 25 most loved candies. This information tells us that if these candies are on the top spots of America’s most loved candies, then they have got to be popular. To add on to that, they were all in USA Today's top 20 best candies of all times with the addition of York Peppermint Patties. Mounds were not far behind on the list. Again, this information tells us that these candies must be popular if they are some of the most loved candies in America. In the Mars company, M&Ms were voted to be the best product of the company; in the Hershey’s company, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups were voted to be the most popular. Some people think that these candies are not popular because of their sugar content which may draw people away. However, Hershey’s and Mars announced last year that they had successfully lowered their candies’ sugar content down a lot which, caused even more people to buy their products. Hershey’s and Mars should keep their candies because they are popular.

The Candies Have Many Good Benefits

One more reason why Hershey's and Mars should keep their candies is because they have many good benefits. These benefits are mainly because of the chocolate inside them. Both the milk and dark chocolate that is in candies such as Mounds, M&Ms, York Peppermint Patties, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups have many benefits. These benefits include making you live longer, reducing stroke risk, boosting heart health, helping to fight diabetes, protecting your skin, and improving blood flow. It makes you live longer according to a study at the Harvard School of Public Health; people who eat candies such as these outlive the people who do not. Eating chocolate in moderation is acceptable. A lot of people think that eating candies with such chocolate can increase the risk of stroke. This was actually proven wrong according to a study in 2011, in which a woman was tested on a Saturday and had a slight chance of getting stroke. The next Saturday, the same woman was tested again and the stroke risk had disappeared entirely due to her eating 45 grams of candies with chocolate between the two Saturdays. It boosts heart health; regular chocolate eaters can have their blood pressure lowered a lot. This is important because high blood pressure is bad for your body. In addition to this, dark chocolate is especially good for your heart because of its properties of inflammation-fighting which reduces cardiovascular risk. It helps fight diabetes. A study from 2005 shows that eating chocolate regularly increases insulin sensitivity which reduces risk of diabetes. Even though a lot of  people think that eating these chocolate-filled candies can cause diabetes, this information proves that it actually reduces the risk of this disease. It protects your skin; the type of antioxidants in dark chocolate, called flavonoids, are found in Mounds, certain types of Reese's Peanut Cups, and York Peppermint Patties. It improves blood flow; cocoa includes ingredients such as anti-clotting, blood thinning properties. Because of these properties, a lot of these candies improve blood flow and circulation. As you can see, this benefit of chocolate shows that chocolate eaters’ blood flow has improved due to the chocolate. To add on to this, if the candies were discontinued, these benefits would be less common. These are the benefits of Hershey’s and Mars candies.

Here’s why Hershey's and Mars should keep their candies: the candies are very profitable, the candies are very popular; M&Ms and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups being the most popular and most profitable candies between the two companies. And lastly, the candies have many good benefits. Why should they discontinue their candies? Wouldn’t so many people lose jobs? Wouldn’t the customers be so disappointed? This fifth grader thinks that all of those things would happen if these candies were discontinued. In addition to this, this fifth grader has never been harmed by any of these candies in his life. The evidence is crystal clear: these candies need to be kept because if they are not, bad things will probably happen.
