Brave Irene
In the book Brave Irene by William Steig, Irene faces many challenges to get to to palace to deliver a dress to the duchess because her mother is very sick. I think the author shows that Irene has courage.
For example, when the text said “She sat in the snow in great pain afraid she wouldn’t be able to go on, but she managed to get on her feet and start moving.” This shows that Irene has courage because she hurt her ankle and kept on moving even though it hurt, there was a snowstorm, the wind was horrible, it was dark and nighttime, and she was all alone, and she is doing all of it just for her mother.
Another example to prove that Irene has courage is when the text said “ Poor mama said Irene, I can get it there!” This proves that Irene has courage because she is willing to get the package there all by herself just for her mother even though there is a big, cold, nasty snowstorm and it is really dark outside and it is dangerous.
Another example is when the text said “ In explosion of fury flung her body about to free herself and was finally able to climb up on her knees and look around.” This proves that Irene has courage because she traveled a long way for her mother so she wasn’t going to stop now because if I were Irene I would go back home and give up but Irene didn’t do that.
My last example is when the text said “ She was cold and alone in the middle of nowhere Irene was lost.” This proves that Irene has courage because she was not upset or scared about it, she just kept on moving.
All these reasons show why I think Irene has courage because she faced many challenges to get to that palace to deliver the dress to the duchess for her mother and after a while Irene finally got the dress there. I think Irene has courage because she got the dress there all alone and I would never do that all by myself.
