Brave Irene
In the book, Brave Irene by William Steig, Irene faces many challenges to deliver a dress to the duchess for her sick mother. Throughout the story the author shows that Irene is brave.
For example, when Irene’s mom gets sick, and Irene volunteers to bring the dress to the duchess and she says, “I can get it there.” This shows that Irene is brave because her mom is sick and the ball is tonight and the duchess wants the dress to have the dress tonight so someone can wear it at the ball.
Another example that proves Irene is brave is when Irene twisted her ankle, and she said, “I need to keep moving.” This shows that Irene is brave because she does not want to go home with the dress she wants to go home without the dress and she wants the duchess to have the beautiful dress.
For my last example that shows Irene is brave is when Irene yelled at the wind and she said, “This is my mother’s work you wicked wind.” This shows that Irene is brave because no one ever yelled at the wind in books so she is very brave and the wind would make her go home.
All these examples show Irene is brave. In the end Irene gets home safe and sound and her mother felt better, and the duchess gave Irene’s mom ginger cake with white icing, some oranges and a pineapple ,and spice candy of many flavors, along with a note saying how much she cherished her gown, and what a brave and loving person Irene was. Which, of course, Mrs. Bobbin knew better than the duchess. The lesson is to never go into a snow storm alone, and never go into a storm ever because you can get a bad cold.
