I Am Marigold from the book: Once Upon a Marigold

I am Marigold.
I wonder why my mother doesn’t like me.
I hear the rushing water of the stream below.
I see my father’s chest when he hugs me.
I want to run away from my mother.
I am going to be a queen.
I pretend I am with my sisters.
I feel so sad and lonely.
I touch my floor mop’s fur.
I understand why people don’t like me.
I say, “I love you Daddy.”

I dream to be on my own.
