Introduction
The Declaration of Independence was a very powerful document. There were many secrets about it, and it was one of the most important events of the American Revolution. Many do not believe that the Declaration was written in 17 days by Thomas Jefferson. In this All-About Book, you will see many sides to the story some people never even think about. The patriots’ sides are most often told, of course, because they won the war.

The British Perspective-King George Ⅲ

Dear Journal,      October 15, 1774

Why would the colonists separate from their King? I allowed them to go to the new world, we ship food, and deliveries, to them! Then, they go and separate from me and don’t follow my laws, even though they are still Englishmen! There they go, harassing my tax collectors. They call themselves the “Sons Of Liberty.” I know I am raising taxes, but that is what they get for not following their king. I need those taxes for the war! Would they want their British sidekicks to die of cold, hunger, or disease? They dumped the tea in the Harbor just because I am raising taxes, but do they want one of their founding fathers, George Washington, to die? Thus far, many have died in our camps of cold temperatures. Perhaps they do not know how angry I am, I then consider the Continental Congress to be traitors. The next event will not be my cup of tea.
Dear Journal, May 20, 1775

Now the war I have been waiting for has begun. I remember everything step-by-step. It was dusk on the night of April 19, 1775. Paul Revere, a Patriot, was on his midnight ride. We were waiting there in Lexington, awaiting their arrival. But, we realized that the American army was not a group of disorganized rebels, but an army that deserved respect. The battles of Lexington and Concord were enormous victories for the “Americans.” Rumor has it that there was a second Continental Congress.

Dear Journal,                             September 3,1783
There are no words to explain my emotions right now. There has been a document called, “ The Declaration Of Independence” written by the Americans. It is a whole archive about why the Americans have separated from me. It is very much an insult, since I am their king. One more thing. We have lost in the war that began on Sabbath Eve, 1775. I’d rather not go into detail about the state of matter.

Dear Journal,                              January 29,1820

I must say this is my last entry. I have been suffering nervous breakdowns. I am qualified as mentally insane. But I must not die now. But anyway, good-bye journal.

Chapter 1
The British Perspective

We, the British are writing this letter in secret. We are scared, innocent souls. This time is one of the hardest for us. First of all, we needed the money for the war of the French and Indians. So our loyal, noble king decided to raise the taxes for the colonists. Our soldiers are dying from the bitter, cold weather. Gratefully, we won that war. I wasn’t born yet for that event, but I have heard much about it. Then there is another story Papa tells to us. The people over there are holding massacres, even.  But, the “Sons of Liberty” are holding these events.  For example,  The Sons Of Liberty have strangled/harassed our tax collectors. I have been alive for the loss of the Revolutionary War. There is a document now, against us.  Only some of us have read the first few words of the Declaration. All of us are in major depression because of King George. He has gone mentally insane, I’ve heard. I hear mum coming to the attic. I better go now.

Sincerely,
One of the British children still surviving.

Chapter 2-www.history.com
The Patriots’ Perspectives-The Sons Of Liberty
Yes! We have succeeded. Thomas Jefferson has completed the rough draft of the Declaration. We have beaten the King of England. We also have completed the task of winning the Revolutionary War. King George will never underestimate the Americans ever again! We will never obey his orders. Now let me walk you through these events.
First of all, there was the French and Indian War. The British needed food, clothing, and warmth. So, King George raised the taxes of our shipments. He even added taxes to tea, stamps, and papers. We were so angry, our lovely Samuel Adams helped us lead the Boston Tea Party, which happened on December 16, 1773. I think it was a wonderful thing. There were more events, but just read the papers.
Then, we progressed and wrote The Declaration of Independence at The Second Continental Congress. It is an archive addressed to many other nations why we separated from King George. This will be the end of the explanation, therefore, it is almost 10 o’clock.

Chapter 2- www.history.com
The Patriots’ Perspectives-The Signers

Today shall be the day that we will have freedom. I,,  John Hancock will sign my name on one of the most powerful documents alive. I will hope that the Congress adopts this splendid Declaration Of Independence. Some don’t understand that the king they are being loyal to, is almost fighting against them. To remind the king how much I am against him, I will sign my name in very large letters.  There,  I guess King George  will be able to read that without his spectacles! I think it will make him appreciate that we are a free country now.

Chapter 3-My Brother Sam Is Dead
The Colonists’ Perspectives-Men

I am a tory. How could people turn their back to their king? i am going off to war on Sabbath Eve next week. I know it will be hard for my dear wife, but she is very responsible of things in our home, sweet home. She will miss me, but I won’t be gone for long. I do not know why the rebels would dare go in our home. I have hidden the gun in the shed left of the cattle pen. I hear the rebels’ bells ringing. I must go into hiding. I have not told anyone this, but secretly I am scared.

I am a Patriot. I am not following the King’s rules because, what King makes their followers pay so much more for their needs? If I was a Tory, I would not be one for long because I am not being respected by my king.  Most of the people here are Tories. I don’t know why people are still Tories; we have won the war. I have heard across town that there is a declaration being made for our independence. Once and for all, we are free.

Chapter 3-My Brother Sam Is Dead
The Colonists’ Perspectives-Women

I have no choice in this matter. My husband’s a Tory, and he thinks he knows more than me just because he is more free than I am. If he goes off to war, I will not only have to care for my own womanly duties, but his. I wish I really could tell him the truth. I really want to be free. I am already injured, the Rebels have come to grab the Brown Bess, and have stabbed me in the stomach with a spear. I’m lucky I’m alive. But sometimes I wish I was not lucky with these laws everywhere.

My husband’s a Patriot. I think it is the right choice because we already have won the war. Now, I have heard from him that there is a Declaration of Independence being made, and that’s what I want to talk about. Somewhere in that document, I hope there will be one article, at least one, about women’s rights. We are so limited, and when there is a gathering, only women and children sit in the rubbish seats. I’m sorry for my language, it’s just that this is very important to me.

Chapter 4
My Perspective

Personally, the Declaration Of Independence is a very different, but interesting subject to me. There are so many sides to the story, and my favorite perspectives are the women’s.  This is because everyone was so free, especially all the Patriots, but meanwhile, there is a much darker side to the story that no one ever thinks about. Perhaps the Salem Witch Trials were all about women who wanted to get attention, because they were ignored so much. This draws me into thinking about other theories. Maybe during all the other events and such, these women were scared, alone, and considered useless. When there were documents being signed, they had to sit in the back, away from everybody. Fun Facts!!!!!

😮The only two men who signed the Declaration on July 4, 1776 were John Hancock and Charles Thomson. This copy was lost. Everybody else signed on August 2nd, 1776!

😵Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on the 50th anniversary of July 4, 1776! They died on July 4, 1826. They died only a few hours away from each other.

📷The Declaration is held today in National Archives, Washington D.C. with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is protected by a 3 million dollar camera!

👶👴The youngest and oldest people who signed were Edward Rutledge, being 26, and Ben Franklin, almost 70!

🕖Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration in 2 weeks, in Pennsylvania, in a small room owned by Jacob Graff!

Conclusion
Perhaps now you think differently about The Declaration Of Independence. Many perspectives make you think differently of the event. In contrast to the British and the Patriots, the Patriots seem happier, but still sound a little depressed. There are still some victories to remember. There was the battle of Lexington and Concord. There also was the whole American Revolution. One more to think about are the many mysteries of the Declaration. Maybe the women were jealous of the men, or the shot heard around the world was not coming from either side, and was another civilian walking along the street? Finally, this All-About Book helps you think differently about the whole American Revolution.
