The Winning Goal
“Pass!” I shouted. Julia had just stolen the ball by doing an amazing pullback. The other team was really tough, but it was a tied game 3 to 3. There were 12 minutes left of the finals. Whoever scored the next goal would win the season.
It was really cold. So cold there was frost on the ground. We were on the soccer field right next to the school. It was the middle of February.
Julia passed it to me. I hesitated to trap it, but I lightly touched it, making it come to a stop. I passed it to Ryley, who jumped over it.
At first I wondered, “Why would she do that?” But then I saw she did it so that she could face the goal right away and dribble it forward.
As soon as I got the ball, I got a little nervous and started wondering, “Would my friends be mad if I didn’t get it in? My thought was interrupted by Julia saying “come on!” I just forgot about that thought and sped towards the goal. In my head I was saying “I can make it!” “I can make it” “I can make it!”
I passed it to Ryley. She passed to Julia. Julia passed it to me. I was so eager to win I almost tripped over my cleat. I passed it to Amilia. She passed it back to me. I did a one touch and...
POW! It soared across the sky as if it had wings. It bounced off the goalie's hand and scored! I ran around the field giving high fives to all of my teammates and screaming “We won!” I would never forget the time scored the winning goal of the finals.
