Jack G.

My name is Sam. I live in Fairfield on a street that has a lot of people that play soccer. I think the thing that you should know most about me is that I love to play soccer. I have very short brown hair. I live in a very small house. I have a big backyard with a pool and trampoline. I have a dog that likes to play in the pool with me. That’s the stuff that you should know about me.
One day in November my mom told me that I had a big soccer tournament coming up in two weeks.
I ran up to my room and got my whole soccer uniform on. Then I ran down the spiral staircase and shouted, “Can we go to the soccer field?”
My mom said, “Yes,” so we drove to the soccer field.  When we got there we saw my whole soccer team practicing. “I guess all of the boys had the same idea as you,” said my mom.
I ran out onto the field and started juggling with my teammates. Suddenly a giant truck came down the driveway and my coach jumped out.
“What are you all doing out here in the cold?” he asked.
“Practicing for the big tournament that is coming up in two weeks!” we shouted.
So he ran back to his truck and got his practice equipment. Hurdles. Then he set up an obstacle course that went ladder, rings, hurdles and then finally you get to shoot the ball. I shot the ball into the the left top corner and shouted, “GOOOAAAL!”
Suddenly I heard someone crying. I looked behind me and saw John my best friend and the best player on my team getting carried to his car.
Five minutes later everybody went home, had dinner and went to bed. The next day at school I asked John what happened because he had crutches and a cast on his foot. He told me that he tripped over the hurdles  and sprained his ankle. Then he told me to play center mid in the tournament for him.
At soccer that afternoon I told my coach what happened to John and that he can’t play in the huge tournament. My coach frowned and walked away.
Halfway through the practice coach shouted,”If we don't have our best player we should practice more.” After that everyone was quiet until the end of practice.
When we got home we were surprised to see my dad sitting at the dinner table waiting for us. We were having lasagna for dinner. My dad told me that I had to step up for John in the tournament and that I was the BEST player now.
A week later we got in the car and drove to the tournament. When we got there my team was already practicing. I joined my teammates in a game of Rondo. Suddenly the ref blew the whistle that meant it was time to put the players out onto the field.
Our team started with the ball so right when the ref blew the whistle I sprinted down the field with the ball. I took a shot but it deflected off the goalie and went out of bounds. The ref blew his whistle for a corner kick. I took the kick and it went right into the six yard box. Suddenly Jack ran into the ball and headed it into the goal. He ran over to me and gave me a big high five. “You are taking all of the corner kicks from now on!” shouted my coach.
After that the ref blew his whistle twice to say that the first half was over. The score was 1-0. At the bench coach told us that we had to make more passes in the second half. Then the ref blew the whistle and we went out onto the field. This time the other team started started the half with the soccer ball. The ref blew the whistle and they ran up the field with the ball. They quickly shot the ball into the left top corner. The score was 1-1 I took the ball back to the middle of the field while the other team celebrated. The ref blew the whistle and I passed the ball to Jack who took it up the field and passed it back to me. Then a defender pushed me in the box. The ref blew his whistle and said free kick. I put the ball on the mark, stepped back and kicked the ball right into the top corner. The crowd cheered and all of my teammates came over and gave me a high five.
The game ended 2-1 and we won the tournament. Everybody came over to my house for a big victory party. John was there and he celebrated with us! It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.
